As people across Canada struggle with rising costs driven in part by global conflict, oil and gas companies are reaping extraordinary profits. It is unacceptable for corporations to benefit from a crisis while everyday people pay more for basic necessities. We’re calling on the federal government to implement a 75% windfall profit tax on excess oil and gas profits. This measure could raise billions in revenue to support Canadians, invest in public infrastructure, and accelerate the transition to a sustainable economy. Canada has taken similar action before in times of crisis, like when it taxed excess profits of banks and insurance companies during the COVID pandemic. It’s time to act again. We urge the federal government to put people before corporate greed and tax excess profits now.
