What’s happening: 

This month, the B.C. Legislature is returning to office, and the Eby government will lay out its vision and priorities in a Speech from the Throne, followed by a provincial budget that could even trigger a snap election later this spring. This is a pivotal moment. 

Why we need to act:

The choices made in this budget will shape life in B.C. for years to come. Will the government invest in affordable, liveable communities and a resilient, clean economy that works for people now and into the future? Or will it make short-sighted decisions to exploit as many natural resources as possible, hoping that giveaways to big polluters will somehow solve the budget deficit? 

To address this crisis, the Stand.earth community is calling on the government to make a renewed commitment to the following:

• No giveaways to fossil fuel billionaires. 

• Protect energy efficiency & heat pump programs that make homes safer and more affordable. 

• Ensure public transit agencies across B.C. have enough operating funds. 

• A renewed commitment to implementing the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.

• Real protection for old growth forests.
