Why are we letting banks gamble away our future?

They say the house always wins, but what about us? While banks and pension funds pour billions of dollars into coal, oil and gas projects, the rest of us are bracing for another summer of extreme heat, wildfires, poor air quality and other unnatural disasters.

The very financial institutions we trust with our money are placing all their bets on short-term gains, even when it means that they gamble away our chance for a livable future. This needs to stop.

At Stand.earth, together with more than 1 million members, we are taking the world’s most powerful financial institutions to task:

We are calling on the world’s biggest fossil fuel financiers to stop funding climate chaos.
Across the US and Canada, we are supporting the Climate Safe Pensions Network in pushing pension and retirement funds to divest from fossil fuels.
Every year, we publish the list of top banks complicit in destroying the Amazon rainforest for profit by funding oil & gas extraction. And we push the worst of them, like Santander, to do better.
We track every fossil fuel divestment and celebrate that over 1,600 institutions have already divested more than $40 trillion from fossil fuels.
