The clock is ticking, you have six months left until COP30 to show you can be a champion for the Amazon.

As Santander’s Global Head of Responsible Banking, you are in a critical position to align the bank’s actions with its stated values on sustainability and climate responsibility.

But right now, Santander’s financing tells a different story.

Despite public commitments to environmental sustainability, Santander has provided $1 billion to PetroPeru — helping to expand the Talara oil refinery. This project fuels oil expansion in the Peruvian Amazon, threatening one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth and endangering the Indigenous communities who have protected it for generations.

This is not responsible banking.

Amazonian Indigenous Peoples are leading the fight against oil extraction that destroys their territories and way of life. Santander should be supporting these communities — not the companies exploiting them.

We urge you to act with integrity and leadership by immediately ending Santander’s financial support for oil and gas projects in the Amazon. Redirecting these investments toward climate-safe, community-based solutions is not only possible — it’s necessary.

The Amazon cannot withstand more destruction. Neither can our planet.
