Microsoft needs to stop boosting the profits of oil and gas producers

Instead of using its innovative technologies to help slow down the climate crisis, Microsoft is instead choosing to help oil and gas producers boost their profits by providing them with personalized cloud computing resources and AI software tools.

After a series of damning revelations from ex-employees who blew the whistle on Microsoft’s covert dealings with fossil fuel companies, it’s time to make it clear that we expect more from one of the largest tech companies in the world.

Will you join our campaign calling on Microsoft to stop making the climate crisis worse by aiding fossil fuel production?

In 2019 you said that the technology Microsoft creates needs to benefit “everyone on the planet, including the planet itself.” Actively supporting the growth of fossil fuel production is the exact opposite of the climate leadership we need.

We are calling on you to recognize Microsoft’s impact on increasing emissions and change your company’s policies accordingly. With accelerating climate impacts felt by communities around the world, we need to phase out the production of fossil fuels, not bend over backwards trying to keep it competitive with renewable energy by using the latest AI technologies.
