lululemon: Drop the greenwashing!

As one of the biggest polluters on the planet and responsible for around 2-8% of global climate emissions, we cannot solve the climate crisis without the fashion industry taking bold climate action. Yet, fashion companies have taken to greenwashing rather than taking urgent action to curb their runaway emissions.

From misleading marketing like “Be Planet” by athleisure company lululemon to using biomass to replace coal in manufacturing, fashion companies are relying on greenwashing marketing to delay the necessary transition to renewable energy. Based on a complaint submitted to the Canadian Anti-Competition Bureau (consumer protection agency) to investigate lululemon’s greenwashing by Stand.earth, lululemon is under official investigation.

This investigation could set a precedent for other fashion companies to stop the greenwashing and take immediate and bold climate action to rid of fossil fuels from their supply chains.

With lululemon dressing Team Canada at the Olympics, we have a hot window of opportunity during the Olympics to spotlight lululemon’s greenwashing.
