A few years ago, advocates and local government leaders in New York City did something amazing. They passed Local Law 97 – often referred to as NYC's Green New Deal – a first in the nation law that limits emissions from large existing buildings and creates green jobs.
Local Law 97 fights climate change by cutting fossil fuel use and ramping up energy efficiency while accelerating the transition to electric appliances – which also means fewer kids exposed to the asthma risks of gas stoves. In short, it means a safer, healthier NYC for all of us.
But real estate bigwigs put extreme pressure on Mayor Adams and the Council to weaken Local Law 97 last year. And despite our work alongside advocates like you, these monied interests already pushed through some of the big loopholes and delays they were looking for.
Now, a new bill called Intro 772 has been proposed, which would gut Local Law 97. The Council needs to reject this bill and future attacks.
Will you send a message to the Council now, telling them to stop Intro 772 and protect Local Law 97?
