Communities across Canada and the U.S. are working together to make big polluters pay their share of climate costs. Here in B.C., I’ve seen smaller communities from Slocan to Qualicum Beach join together pledging to sue big oil. As a resident of Burnaby, I want to see our community join our neighbours and pledge $1 per resident to hold Big Oil accountable.

Not so long ago, we saw how the 2021 heat dome had devastating impacts in B.C. – including the loss of 63 people's lives here in Burnaby. Meanwhile, the world’s largest oil companies are continuing to make record profits despite knowing their products cause greenhouse gas pollution and have terrible impacts on the climate and our community. We can’t afford to have taxpayers continue to pay the increasing costs over the coming decades. It’s time to hold big polluters accountable.

Burnaby Council has taken climate leadership to reduce GHG emissions, including recently passing a strong Zero Carbon Step Code policy. Please continue that climate leadership by pledging $1 to join the lawsuit.
