In early 2024, the White House announced a pause on new liquified natural gas (LNG) export permits. This win for the climate movement halted 12 U.S. LNG export terminals in development, and it is the direct result of people power and frontline leadership in the U.S. Gulf South.
The ruling was a massive shakeup for major gas financing banks such as Citibank, who were likely anticipating major profits from 2024 financing deals. While the pause has been blocked in court, the U.S. Department of Energy is now studying the economic and environmental impacts of these projects, leaving the future of new LNG developments uncertain.
So we're calling out out fossil banks like Citi to stop holding us back from a climate-safe world. Help us encourage Citi to take this as a sign and opportunity to end their support of LNG.
