The world’s #1 fossil bank – Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) – is a major sponsor of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), one of the largest film festivals in the world.
Right now, 300+ actors, filmmakers and directors, including Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, and Julianne Moore are calling on TIFF to drop RBC as a sponsor for the 2024 festival because of the bank’s fossil fuel financing and violation of Indigenous rights.
RBC uses sponsorship of events like TIFF to burnish their reputation, attempting to appear publicly as a positive corporate player while continuing to finance rights-violating and climate-destroying fossil fuel projects behind closed doors. This kind of ‘artswashing' must end, and this is a critical time for us all to take action as sponsorship renewal talks are underway.
RBC’s sponsorship deal with TIFF runs out this year, and we need to make sure that TIFF doesn’t renew it.
Will you send an email to TIFF urging them to drop RBC?
