TIFF: Drop RBC as a sponsor

The world’s #1 fossil bank – Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) – is a major sponsor of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), one of the largest film festivals in the world.

Last year, 300+ actors, filmmakers and directors, including Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, and Julianne Moore called on TIFF to drop RBC as a sponsor for the 2024 festival because of the bank’s fossil fuel financing and violation of Indigenous rights.

RBC uses sponsorship of events like TIFF to burnish their reputation, attempting to appear publicly as a positive corporate player while continuing to finance rights-violating and climate-destroying fossil fuel projects behind closed doors. This kind of ‘artswashing' must end, and this is a critical time for us all to take action as sponsorship renewal talks are underway.

RBC is complicit in genocide from Turtle Island to Palestine. RBC funds BILLIONS of dollars in projects like the Coastal GasLink and TransMountain pipeline that violate Indigenous rights, and invests in weapons and surveillance techonlogies like General Dynamics and Elbit Systems.

Filmmakers and artists are calling on TIFF to drop RBC, and refusing to their art be used to artswash RBC's crimes.

Will you send an email to TIFF urging them to drop RBC?

Tell TIFF execs: Drop RBC!
