Follow Australia’s lead and reject forest biomass as a false climate solution

Thriving, healthy forests are one of our best protections against climate change.

Logging the world’s last old growth and primary forests is bad enough – but logging forests to burn for electricity is unforgivable.

It’s long past time for governments to stop handing out billions of dollars in subsidies to energy giants to log and burn forests for fuel, and instead invest in scaling up genuine clean energy solutions. Australia just became the first country in the world to announce that logging forests and burning them for electricity won’t be part of its renewable energy strategy – and it’s high time for more world leaders to do the same.

Will you join us in calling on Canada and the US to follow Australia’s lead and declare that logging and burning primary forests for electricity has no place in a renewable energy future?

To: Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau and US President Biden See more

Australia recently became the first country in the world to commit to an end to subsidies for biomass sourced from primary forests. We’re calling on you to follow Australia’s lead and declare that logging forests for electricity has no place in a renewable energy future, and that forest-based biomass should not receive federal clean energy subsidies.
