Tell Chubb: Stop insuring fossil fuels

Blow up caricature of Chubb CEO Evan Greenberg with activist signs saying stop insuring climate chaos in front of the US Open

As more companies cut ties with fossil fuels, insurance giant Chubb stands out as one of the biggest remaining enablers of dangerous new oil and gas expansion.

Chubb has acknowledged the threat of climate change for more than a decade, and its CEO has even publicly called for climate action — but his actions speak far louder than his words.

Chubb remains one of the worst offenders on climate and human rights. On top of being one of the world’s biggest insurers of oil and gas expansion, Chubb has been linked to offshore oil and gas drilling in Brazil and oil and gas exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. And unlike 15 other insurers, it has refused to rule out support for the risky East African Crude Oil Pipeline.

Last year, following pressure from Indigenous communities and climate activists, Chubb committed to not insure tar sands projects like the destructive Trans Mountain pipeline in Canada. But continuing to insure other dangerous fossil fuel projects means Chubb is still complicit in fueling climate chaos and enabling human rights abuses. And that means our job isn't done yet.
