Amazon forest view

With unchecked logging, mining, cattle farming and oil drilling driving more and more deforestation, scientists are warning of the risk of irreversible destruction to the Amazon rainforest. Many parts of the once pristine ecosystem are already turning into a savannah – plains with sparse trees and no lush rainforest tree canopies.

The science is clear. And so is the pathway to protecting the Amazon. A coalition of Indigenous leaders from the Amazon basin, together with a group of global environmental organizations, including Stand.earth, are calling for the protection of 80% of the Amazon rainforest by 2025.

I support the call of the Indigenous peoples for a global pact for the permanent protection of 80% of the Amazon forest by 2025. Urgent action is needed to protect the future fate of the Amazon and the people that call it home. I stand in solidarity and call on elected leaders to support higher climate goals for the Amazon in alignment with "Amazonia for Life: Protect 80% by 2025" as defined in the Declaration of the Amazonian Indigenous peoples.
