We have seen with our own eyes clear evidence of primary forests being logged to produce wood pellets for global export to burn for electricity. It takes many decades to centuries for forests to regain the majority of their carbon storage after being logged and burning wood quickly dumps mass amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
Burning forests for fuel is far from a “climate-friendly solution” to the fossil fuel economy: its claims of carbon neutrality have been scientifically disproven around the world. But the industry is still ramping up in scale.
We need a groundswell of public pressure right now to counter this and demand that key ministers in the Canadian government urgently act on clean energy solutions that are not at odds with a liveable planet.
