The Wet’suwet’en, an Indigenous nation in northern British Columbia, have been defending their land from the fracked gas Coastal GasLink (CGL) pipeline for almost a decade and the Hereditary Chiefs of all five Wet’suwet’en clans have refused to give their consent to the project. The Coastal GasLink pipeline and associated LNG terminal is the largest private fracked gas investment in Canadian history. The pipeline would contaminate the sacred headwaters of the Wedzin Kwa, a pristine ecosystem that is the lifeblood of the Wet’suwet’en nation.
But the very thing that the Wet’suwet’en have been resisting for so long is about to happen, Coastal GasLink is preparing to drill under the river imminently. 27 banks including the Royal Bank of Canada are the funders of the CGL pipeline, and we need to pressure them to cancel their investments in CGL and stop violating Indigenous rights.
This is our last chance to protect the Wedzin Kwa, and stand with the Wet’suwet’en. Will you stand with the Wet’suwet’en and demand that the 27 banks defund CGL?
