Despite overwhelming public support for old growth forest protection and a clear roadmap based on science, Stand.earth Research Group just released shocking satellite images that reveal recent logging in the most at-risk old growth forests in B.C. as an initial piece of upcoming research.
The technical panel that was appointed by the B.C. government itself implored decision-makers to immediately pause logging in these areas months ago, but the B.C. NDP chose instead to leave the majority of these at-risk old growth forests on the chopping block.
The province’s recent announcement celebrating deferrals, even while logging continues in rare and at-risk old growth forests, shows how vulnerable the B.C. NDP is on this issue. After a flood of public pressure last year forced decision makers to take action on old growth protection, this is an opportune moment to remind them that people around the world still care deeply about protecting these ancient forests – and we won't rest until they meet their promises and secure deferrals for ALL at-risk old growth.
