Call on decision-makers to immediately extend the public engagement period for a proposed pest management plan, which would see the spraying of chemical herbicides – including triclopyr and glyphosate – in forest lands from Squamish to Hope, including in areas around Chilliwack and Agassiz, over a period of 5 years beginning April 2022.
Despite being the subject of ongoing lawsuits for potential links to cancer, glyphosate is used by the BC timber industry to kill native plant species – including berry plants and fire-resistant broadleaf trees – which are considered pests by the logging sector, in order to propagate timber plantations. The proposal for the Sea to Sky and Chilliwack Natural Resource Districts has been submitted by the province’s own Crown corporation, BC Timber Sales.
The deadline for public engagement is Sunday, March 27, 2022. We are encouraging members of the public to immediately contact decision-makers and express their concern about this proposal, and request an immediate extension to the public engagement period.
