On February 25, Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs met with the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) to demand the bank to withdraw financing for the Coastal GasLink pipeline – a 670 kilometre fracked gas pipeline bulldozing through Wet'suwet'en territory in British Columbia, Canada.
This landmark meeting was the first time RBC has met with the Wet'suwet'en who have been resisting the fracked gas pipeline for more than a decade.
At the meeting, the Hereditary Chiefs issued the following demands to RBC:
RBC has until April 7, the day of their Annual General Meeting where they report their profits to shareholders, to defund the Coastal GasLink pipeline. It's time for RBC to live up to its commitments to Reconciliation and promises about climate action. Send a message to David McKay and urge him to stop financing the Coastal GasLink pipeline.
