Thanks to the tireless organizing of millions of people -- over 1,500 institutions globally, representing over $40 trillion (with a T!) in assets -- have committed to some level of fossil fuel divestment. We’re winning, but we’re not done yet.

The next frontier in this fight is pension funds. Pension funds are among the largest – and longest-term – institutional investors in fossil fuels. They have hundreds of billions invested in the world’s largest coal, oil, and gas companies. As a result, our tax dollars and retirement funds are being used to support the powerful coal, oil, and gas companies that are causing the climate crisis, polluting our communities, and violating Indigenous rights.

We’re winning, and pensions are the next big fight for the divestment movement. In an era of climate crisis, investing in fossil fuels is not only bad for the planet but a risky investment.
