Since the government bought the Trans Mountain pipeline in 2018, there have been significant material changes in the fundamental assumptions used to justify the project. We have updated climate science, new forecasts for reduced oil demand, and are experiencing cascading climate impacts across Canada. As more fossil fuel expansion projects are paused or cancelled all over the world, it’s time for the federal government to accept the new reality and re-evaluate the Trans Mountain pipeline in the current context.
That’s why we are calling on Justin Trudeau and his new cabinet to formally pause construction of the Trans Mountain pipeline and conduct a comprehensive review of the project.
