We can stop future oil spills

It’s simple – you can’t spill oil if you don’t drill for it!

If they wanted to, both President Biden and Governor Newsom could decide tomorrow to stop issuing new permits for fossil fuel infrastructure. They could stop an untold number of oil spills before they even have a chance to happen.

But unless they are hit with an unprecedented wave of pressure from their constituents, they won’t. That’s where we come in.

The devastating October 2021 oil spill in Huntington beach, California, as well as the countless ongoing spills in the Gulf of Mexico and around the world are completely preventable. The answer is simple – stop drilling new wells and building new fossil fuels infrastructure.

We, the undersigned, call on President Joe Biden and California Governor Gavin Newsom to immediately stop issuing new permits for any and all forms of oil and gas wells, pipelines, and refineries.
