Refineries and fossil fuel infrastructure impact predominantly BIPOC and low income communities. For too long, whole neighborhoods, cities, and counties have had to deal with elevated rates of asthma, birth defects, cancer, and other devastating illnesses. Enough.
The SAFE Cities movement is showing that a better way forward is possible. Where our national governments are moving too slowly, cities and counties are beginning to take urgent action on climate by passing SAFE Cities policies that also protect their air, water, and health from toxic fossil fuel pollution. Los Angeles is phasing out oil drilling with city limits, Petaluma is preventing new gas stations from being built, and New York City is electrifying their buildings. Even frontline communities with major refining operations like Whatcom County are taking action against fossil fuels in order to protect their residents.
Send a message to your local lawmakers urging them to join the SAFE Cities movement and move your community away from fossil fuels and into a clean energy future.
