Our latest analysis of the B.C. budget reveals that fossil fuel subsidies are going up and up – with no sign of decreasing. In 2020-21, the NDP-led government gave $1.3 billion to the fossil fuel industry — 8.3% more than the previous year, and more than what was spent on climate action. Fossil fuel subsidies are now more than double what they were when Premier Horgan’s NDP first took power.
We’re in a climate crisis, and on top of that, communities across B.C. are still reeling from the impacts of COVID-19. Instead of lining the pockets of oil and gas executives, that money should be going to a just transition.
It’s time to sound the alarm on B.C.’s bankrolling of corporate polluters.
