Puget Sound Energy (PSE) is Washington state’s largest energy utility, providing gas and electric services to almost two million homes across the state.
And as we all know, with great power comes great responsibility. Unfortunately, PSE is not being responsible with Washington’s health, safety, and future.
PSE is a member of a fossil fuel front group called Partnership for Energy Progress (PEP), a group that launched a $2.8 million campaign in 2020 with the goal of pushing “natural” gas as a climate solution. Womp womp.
PEP is pushing dangerous lies about fracked gas. Fracked gas is a polluting fossil fuel, not a climate solution. Just like coal and oil, we need to move off fracked gas in order to build a clean energy future.
From buying bus ads to targeting children with coloring pages and online games – despite the fact that cooking with gas leads to increased asthma in children – PEP is doing everything they can to convince us that fracked gas is safe, reliable, and necessary.
We know that PEP and their PR campaign is a response to growing public concern about fracked gas and the climate crisis. They’re scared of the growing grassroots climate justice movement across Washington. Fossil fuel companies across the country are using similar tactics in an effort to delay climate justice for as long as they can make money.
Our future and health aren’t for sale! We need a just transition to renewable energy and this is the year to take significant steps away from dirty fuels like fracked gas.
So tell PSE: Leave the Partnership for Energy Progress, and instead work with communities to build a clean energy future. #DitchPEP
