Old growth forests are on the edge of disappearing in British Columbia. Now, less than 1% of forests in the province are home to big, old trees. These are some of the most carbon-rich forests on the planet, and if they’re left open to logging, the global community will lose a major resource for mitigating the climate crisis.
In April, the B.C. government was given a six month timeline to implement logging bans in the most at-risk old growth forests – but these giant trees are still on the chopping block. Right now there’s an opportunity to finally secure protection for these ancient forests.
British Columbia just appointed a new Minister of Forests who has the power to immediately ban old growth logging across the province. Minister Katrine Conroy has all the necessary information to take action immediately to take action immediately. All they need is a final push from you to make it a top priority.
Send an email to the Minister of Forests to create a groundswell of public pressure to immediately ban logging in at-risk old growth forests across B.C.
