The District of North Vancouver has passed the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, which means it's now easier to pass more concrete local government policies to block the build-out of new fossil fuel infrastructure, speed up the clean energy transition, and create good-long-term jobs.
The District of North Vancouver is already recognized on our interactive map, so you may know that these policies – which we call SAFE policies – can range from mandating all-electric new buildings to saying no to new fossil fuel extraction, storage, refining or export facilities, to exploring ways to transform the local bus fleet to 100% electric vehicles, to banning new gas stations. Each different SAFE policy that passes gets your community a new or upgraded badge and a safer, healthier, more equitable world.
Passing a resolution that includes a commitment to phasing out fossil fuels and endorsing the global call for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty was just the first step in keeping your local elected officials focused on the local and global action needed.
