Tell Governor Newsom and local California decision makers: Take climate change seriously and protect our communities from fossil fuels

For too long, the fossil fuel industry has poisoned communities and driven us toward climate catastrophe. Enough.

Right now, Governor Newsom and other local government leaders have a chance to create a safer California – one where we implement a just transition that phases out fossil fuels in a way that protects community health, prioritizes racial justice, and creates new jobs for people working in the oil and gas sector. But to do the right thing they’re going to need a push.

That’s where you and I come in. As part of the Last Chance Alliance we’re working with hundreds of environmental, health, justice, faith, labor, community, parent, and consumer organizations to ensure Newsom and other leaders turn California into an example of climate and environmental justice the world can follow.

The truth is, Newsom is making decisions right now about how to shape the COVID economic recovery. He needs to know that Californians want a green and fair recovery. Send him a message today!

To: Governor Newsom and California’s government leaders

  1. STOP new fossil fuel projects: Lead by issuing no new permits for oil and gas extraction, fossil fuel infrastructure, or petrochemical projects in California.
  2. DROP existing production: Set a national and global precedent by becoming the first oil-producing state to announce a phase-out of existing production in line with the Paris climate goals, with a just and equitable transition that protects workers, communities, and economies.
  3. ROLL out setback limits: Begin by first phasing out oil production in places that are suffering most from the impacts of fossil fuel extraction – by creating a 2500-foot health and safety buffer zone between fossil-fuel infrastructure and homes, schools, and other sensitive sites.

Protect our communities from fossil fuels
