Stand in solidarity with the Nuchatlaht Nation

Stand in solidarity with the Nuchatlaht Nation

Nootka Island is home to some of the most spectacular old-growth rainforest still standing. The Nuchatlaht Nation has inspiring plans to enact Salmon Parks and protect what’s remaining on the Island, which now has over 1,000km of logging roads and massive clearcuts.

Which is why the Nuchatlaht Nation is going to court. The Nation has launched a title case to regain control of their territory, but the B.C. government is holding the case up — with some truly horrible arguments.

B.C.’s lawyers are arguing that the Nuchatlaht Nation “abandoned” their territory on Nootka Island, when in fact it was the government’s own actions that forced them off the land. Attorney General David Eby needs to hear from you: tell him to treat the Nuchatlaht Nation honourably and to give the Nation a fair chance to prove its claim.
