Carnival Corporation has been getting away with using the world’s oceans as its dumping grounds. From dumping 161,000 gallons of gray water, 500,000 gallons of sewage, and over 11,300 gallons of food waste (mixed in with plastic!), it’s clear that Carnival is putting the health of our oceans and coastal communities at risk.
Now here’s the real kicker. Despite violating probation and continuing its habitual practice of pollution, Carnival would like to think of itself as a responsible corporation. Even while a federal judge threatened to ban its ships from U.S. ports, Carnival’s PR guy, Roger Frizzell commented, “Our environmental responsibility has been and continues to be a top priority for the company. Our aspiration is to leave the places we touch even better than when we first arrived.”
Oh really Carnival? We agree!
So let’s hold Roger Frizzell and Carnival executives to their word and supposed good intention. If the multi-billion dollar international corporation really means it, then the company can put its money where its mouth is by putting profits towards cleaning up the communities and ecosystems it has polluted.
We’ll be delivering this petition with our partners to Carnival’s execs. It’s time to put the pressure on and hold this cruise giant accountable for its crimes against the ocean.
To Carnival Corp. Roger Frizzell and CEO Arnold Donald:
Put your money where your mouth is. From dumping 161,000 gallons of gray water, 500,000 gallons of sewage, and over 11,300 gallons of food waste (the included plastics), it’s clear that your company is putting the health of our oceans and coastal communities at risk.
Please commit to giving up some of the $3.2 billion in profits your company collected in 2018 to clean up the many communities you have polluted with oil, plastic, sewage and graywater, food waste and air pollution. These communities who suffered the brunt of your illegal business practices deserve no less.
