The Boreal forest is an iconic ecosystem that holds deep cultural value, sequesters enormous amounts of greenhouse gas emissions, and is home to the majestic Boreal Caribou.
But this sensitive ecosystem is threatened by logging, oil, and gas extraction. The population of Boreal caribou – whose health reflects the health of the forest itself – is listed as Threatened under the Canadian Species at Risk Act and is declining rapidly.
We need the federal and provincial governments to create a national plan to protect the Boreal Forest — a plan that has the full consent of First Nations and all Indigenous peoples.
