The federal government has officially designated Danielle Smith’s proposed Pacific Link Pipeline - aka the Money Pit Pipeline - as a “Project of National Interest” (PONI), lining up a staggering $43 billion (at least) of potential public money to gamble on a dying fossil fuel industry.

This reckless plan bypasses vital environmental regulations, ignores species-at-risk protections, and tramples on First Nations’ Free, Prior, and Informed Consent.

It threatens our health care, affordable housing, clean energy future, and everything we love – including the last 73 surviving Southern Resident killer whales.

We’ve stopped destructive pipelines before by standing together, and we can do it again.

I am writing to urge your government to oppose using public money to build the Pacific Link pipeline and reject it completely.

According to the latest Early Estimate of National Emissions (EENE), Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions went up in 2025, pushing Canada even further from our climate targets.  As Canada experiences increasingly severe climate impacts, including record-breaking heat waves, wildfires, and floods, it’s clear that expanding fossil fuel infrastructure will move us even further in the wrong direction.

We should be investing in clean energy and climate resilience, not putting billions of dollars of public money to projects that increase emissions and environmental risks.

A new pipeline and even more tanker traffic would increase the risk of oil spills and threaten sensitive coastal ecosystems and marine life — like the last remaining Southern Resident killer whales — while simultaneously undermining your climate commitments.

Canada has a real opportunity to lead the clean energy transition to a stronger, more resilient economy that is not exposed to the boom and bust cycle of global energy markets.

Approving another major pipeline – that no energy company has offered to even build – would send the opposite message.

I want to see public funds going towards infrastructure that creates sustainable jobs, environmental stewardship, and overall economic prosperity.

I urge you to reconsider and reject this pipeline.
